October 6, 2025 — Almost a Year Later
Production on Hurtland has finally begun it’s early stages! Animation is a slow process, especially when I’m working on this thing alone and have a life to live outside of the project. I swore that I would not sacrifice my well-being for my art, and I meant it!
So far, I’ve completed a proof of concept shot for the film. This shot contains a sample of what the finished film will look like. I won’t post the video clip publicly, but here’s a still frame of it!
October 23, 2024 — The Conception of Hurtland
As my SCAD thesis film, TOKOPHOBIA, reaches the end of its festival run, I’ll soon be posting it online publicly on YouTube.
With that era of my life at a close, I’ll be shifting my attention to a new animated film that’s been inside my head for years: Hurtland.
Conceived during the summer of 2020, Hurtland was an idea born from grief at the various injustices happening in the USA. It was also right before I was set to begin my MFA at SCAD. I thought I could use that time to make a timely, politically relevant short film, but as you can guess, that didn’t happen.
But now, with school behind me, I’m ready to dust off this old project and start again! I’m older and wiser now, and I have a full time job, so I decided to create this production blog to keep track of my progress. It’s also great to have something to show to other people who might be curious when I tell them “I’m making an animated film!”
